New updates for the 2012 season, events, photos MAY 5TH, AUGUST 25TH, 2012
For the 2011 season, we have some new and interesting things at the Heckler Farm. For the May 7th Herb/Plant sale and craft show, some of the people from Bedford Village are supposed to be setting up a table for the event, I believe they're doing something with colonial cooking, although what they prepare is food for their own people ( these items will not be for the publics consumption). We did another symposium this past fall, up at Ft. Lee, NJ. This included making bread and pies in their outdoor bakeoven, we have procured a similar period handcarved bread trough, and hopefully we will have our own people making bread the way they would have in colonial times and making it in the outdoor bakeoven, besides the pies that our people make. UPDATE : 12/17/2011 : We made some homemade bread in the bakeoven during the august Hecklerfest, along with the pies, it came out great and tasted awesome. For the 2012 season, I've acquired a handcrank period grinding mill, which I hope to have set up at Hecklerfest, along with some hard field corn, kids can see how flour was made. The people that set up for the weekend after the herbfest was over, did a nice job, and they came back in the fall, and turned the farmstead info a reinacted tavern, I have pictures of this on one of my pages, if you desire to look at them.
We would like to give kudo's to the scouts that have put so much effort into the site. They have fixed the split rail fence out by the barn, made repairs to the springhouse, and fixed and repainted the picket fence around the colonial garden. Restoration inside the house is coming along as well, the one upstairs bedroom is almost completely redone in period attire, the floors redone, we now have some period furnishings, including a rope bed . IN THE EVENT OF INCLEMENT WEATHER, WE WILL HAVE CANCELLATION NOTICE ON THIS SITE, 1ST THING SATURDAY MORNING, WHICH WOULD PUSH THE FESTIVAL TO SUNDAY. WE WILL NOT POSTPHONE THE FESTIVAL SATURDAY FOR A SMALL DRIZZLE, VENDORS ARE EXPECTED TO BE SET UP, IF THEY CHANGE THE FORCAST TO HAVING HEAVY SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ALL DAY, IT WILL BE MOVED TO SUNDAY.
We must also thank one of our colleagues, from the lower salford historical society, for trapping out the pesky and nuisance like groundhogs that had been devouring our colonial garden up until that point. The garden has been fantastic since that, and we hope to improve on that again this year. .
