WELCOME BACK TO THE HECKLERPLAINS WEBSITE:  I HAVE TALKED ABOUT DOING A ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN,  OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAS DECIDED THAT THE VALPAK PACKAGE, FOR THE MOST PART, ISN'T THE BEST OPTION, THEY FEEL THAT TO MANY PEOPLE JUST THROW THESE THINGS AWAY WHEN THEY ARRIVE.  WHAT WE HAVE DECIDED TO DO, IS A PLACEMAT ADVERTISING, AT THE ROY ANN DINER ON OLD 309, OUTSIDE OF SELLERSVILLE.  IT IS ALWAYS A BUSY PLACE, AND WE'VE CONTRACTED TO RUN IT FOR 6 MONTHS, FROM MARCH THROUGH AUGUST, THIS WILL PUT 90,000-100,000 PLACEMATS IN FRONT OF THE LOCAL PUBLIC, AND HELP GENERATE A GREAT TURNOUT FOR THE EVENTS.  WE MAY STILL ASK VENDORS FOR A 10% DISCOUNT ON ANY ONE ITEM, TO HELP DEFER OUR COST FOR THIS VENTURE, BUT IT SHOULD HELP BRING MORE PEOPLE IN, AND HAVE MORE SALES FOR VENDORS.  In 2010, we will again be offering a discount to vendors who book both the May & August shows, this will be $40.00, otherwise each show will cost $15.00 for the May show, and $30.00 for the August show respectively.

About Us :   Some major restoration for the barn.   One of our groups biggest challanges is to make some much needed repairs to the pre revolutionary barn.  The barn is in dire need of a new roof, the roof is stressing the back wall at the joints and is pushing the wall outwards.   we as a group would like to get a grant from the state to help with the cost of this uptaking, it is a critical repair, and may cost somewhere in the vicinity of $30,000.  Something our group would have quite a time raising on our own.  Economic conditions don't look too good in that respect.  At this time, I almost think we need to do what the Indians are doing with the Crazy horse memorial,  and look for private funds and donations for this project.  One of my goals as a promotor for the group is to try to make our shows as big an attraction to the public as I can possibly get, so that we can absorb as much of the cost of this project as possible.                If you are a crafts person or an artist, please contact us for craft space, we have more than adequate space for  you or your coleagues.  If you are a vistior to our website or the farmstead itself, we welcome you to come out and enjoy yourself at either of our events.

The Heckler Plains Folklife Society  has been in existence since 1975, originally started as Blueprint '76.  The organization, staffed by volunteers, hosts groups of grade school classes who spend the day in true colonial life, performing such chores as candlemaking, butter churning, sherensnitte, tin punching, wool carding and flax hetcheling.  These craftsare demonstrated at the events for the public, along with genealogy displays and information, colonial cooking demonstrations and artifact displays.

Our Business

To teach others how things were done in this area before the turn of the last century and going back to colonial times.  Through lectures and hands on experience.
